Implementation started
The water level in the Baltic Sea plays an important role in the water exchange of bays in the inner archipelago, for example, which also affects the state of water and organisms living in the area. Changes in the water level also affect the state of the environment if water rises to areas from which substances harmful to the aquatic environment can be washed out into the sea during floods. Examples of such areas are storage areas of hazardous waste on the shore.
The Government of Åland must initiate interaction and cooperation that includes good land use planning and concrete protective measures to ensure good protection against the adverse effects of climate change.
Objective of the measure:
Climate change adaptation measures help to prevent its negative effects on the aquatic environment. A report with proposals for climate change adaptation measures is available on the Government of Åland website.
