DESCRIPTION

The overall aim of the project is to develop management strategies for coastal areas and thus to contribute to smart, green growth and sustainable management. The project also seeks to create a water information portal where we can compile information on coastal areas and make it available to all stakeholders and thus provide a basis for better decision-making.
The idea for the project was born out of a joint project of the Government of Åland and the County Administrative Board of Östergötland County, and the EU has provided support for the planning of the project. Planning meetings will be held next winter to develop concrete proposals for cooperation projects in the following four focus areas:
• water management and environmental monitoring
• maritime spatial planning
• local and regional cooperation in coastal zone management
• information portal for maritime spatial planning and water management in marine and coastal areas in the Baltic Sea region.
The aim is that the project will include as many of the tools that need to be developed for Åland (see above) as possible.
The project will compile information and develop the necessary tools for management of marine and coastal areas. The project will result in an information portal where the tools and information are easily available in the form of maps, databases and measures, for example. It will be possible to use the information portal at both local and regional level. On the portal, it will also be possible to highlight good examples and pilot projects relating to the planning of marine areas and coastal zones and provide a toolbox and instructions, including examples of smart, green and blue growth and sustainable management.
